California Legion has signed Christian Poidevin ahead of the 2026 Major League Rugby season, adding a high-output forward with championship experience, elite defensive numbers, and recent league honors.
Christian Poidevin arrives in California with one of the most complete MLR resumes of the past five seasons. The Australian-born forward brings physical presence, durability, and proven consistency across multiple franchises.
Poidevin entered Major League Rugby in 2021 with the LA Giltinis, quickly establishing himself as a core starter during the club’s inaugural campaign. He made 12 appearances in his first season and played a key role in LA’s Championship run, helping secure the 2021 MLR title. The following year, he started 14 of 16 matches and finished inside the top ten league-wide for tackles, recording 200 stops across the season.
After LA’s closure, Poidevin chose to remain in California, signing with the San Diego Legion ahead of the 2023 season. He featured heavily during San Diego’s record-setting 15–1 regular season, starting 10 matches and scoring five tries as the Legion advanced to the Championship Final.
Across three seasons in San Diego, Poidevin continued to raise his level. In 2025, he produced a career-best year, scoring eight tries in 14 appearances, starting 11 matches, and adding 170 tackles with nearly 300 meters gained in possession. His performances earned him San Diego Legion’s 2025 Player’s Player of the Year award, recognition voted on by teammates.
“I’m proud to be returning to the Legion for this exciting new venture in California." Said the USA Eagle flanker.
"California has been home for the past five years, during which I’ve had the privilege of representing both San Diego and Los Angeles.
The Legion organization and its incredible fans have played a huge role in my journey, and I’m eager to keep building with them this season.
I can’t wait for the year ahead and to connect with our supporters once again.”
In total, Poidevin has made 59 MLR appearances, starting 51 matches, scoring 18 tries, and completing 695 tackles. His ability to combine physical defense with attacking contribution makes him a valuable addition to the Legion's forward group.
Poidevin’s form has also placed him firmly on the international radar. He was named to the USA Eagles 32-man squad for the July 2025 tests, reinforcing his standing as one of the most consistent forwards in the competition.
With championship pedigree, leadership through action, and peak form entering 2026, Christian Poidevin strengthens the foundation as California Legion continues building toward its inaugural season.
