Former Samoan U20's Flyhalf now prop Fred Apulu returns to California Legion for 2026 after stints with LA, Chicago, and Utah in Major League Rugby.

Apulu brings four seasons of MLR experience after competing with the LA Giltinis, Chicago Hounds, and Utah Warriors between 2022 and 2025. Across 27 league appearances he has developed into a dependable front row option who provides depth and physicality in the scrum.

Originally from Samoa, Apulu represented Samoa at the Under 20 level before relocating to Maui, Hawaii, where he played club rugby with Hawaii Marist. His move to the United States opened the pathway that led to his professional debut in Major League Rugby.

Apulu made his MLR debut for the LA Giltinis during the 2022 season. Following the club’s departure from the league, he spent time with the San Diego Legion squad before signing with the Chicago Hounds during their inaugural season in 2023. He appeared four times that year and expanded his role in 2024, earning his first MLR start and making a career high 14 appearances while contributing to Chicago’s playoff run.

In 2025, Apulu joined the Utah Warriors where he appeared in eight matches with three starts and scored his first MLR try.

Now joining Legion, Apulu adds size, versatility, and professional experience to the front row as the club continues building its squad for the 2026 season.
