Justus Tavai returns home to California for the 2026 season, adding size, power, and professional experience to Legion’s front row at tighthead prop.

A native of Inglewood, Tavai began his athletic career on the gridiron, playing defensive tackle at the University of Hawai‘i from 2018–2021 before transferring to San Diego State in 2022. Following the 2023 NFL Draft, he signed with the New England Patriots, continuing a family legacy of high-level football alongside his brothers, Jahlani and J.R.

Tavai transitioned to rugby with the American Raptors, where he quickly embraced the code and earned selection for the 2024 Super Rugby Americas season. After the Raptors program concluded, he continued his development with Belmont Shore RFC, strengthening the pathway from the Los Angeles club scene to the professional level.

In April 2025, Tavai signed with Rugby FC Los Angeles and made his Major League Rugby debut. Stepping into an injury-hit front row, he appeared in four matches and earned his first professional start, showcasing the athleticism and physicality that define his game.

Now joining Legion for 2026, Tavai brings versatility and power to the tighthead position as the club continues building a physical, competitive pack.

Off the field, Tavai remains closely connected to the Los Angeles rugby community. He serves on the coaching staff at Mira Costa High School—his alma mater—helping develop the next generation of players in a program where he and his brothers first built their athletic foundations.

Grounded in his roots and driven by faith, Tavai returns to California ready to make an impact for Legion in the season ahead.
