California Legion added another strong chapter to their 2026 campaign after a resilient 36–23 road win over Old Glory DC. Four Legion players were selected in the MLR Week 5 First XV, while the club was also named MLR Week 5 Team of the Week.
The recognition followed one of Legion’s toughest wins of the season. Forced into pre-match changes, reduced to 14 men for a stretch, and tested throughout the afternoon, the group stayed composed. Strong defense, sharp finishing, and collective resolve turned a difficult road fixture into a full five-point result.
In the second row, Captain Jason Damm once again set the standard. He crossed for a try and led from the front with a tireless defensive effort. His presence through contact and set piece helped Legion stay connected in key moments.

At openside flanker, Ed Timpson delivered another immense performance and was named Legion Man of the Match. His defensive output, breakdown work, and nonstop engine helped drive the side through long periods under pressure.
On the wing, Joe Mano provided finishing quality and physical edge. He found the try line, threatened in open space, and continued to show his value on both sides of the ball.

In the midfield, Cassh Maluia produced another complete display. He added a try of his own and brought strong defensive intent, helping Legion control momentum late in the match.
Club recognition as MLR Week 5 Team of the Week reflects a side winning in different ways. Legion have shown they can attack with flair, defend with discipline, and respond when adversity hits.
The squad now enters the bye week firmly in the race near the top of the table before the California Tour resumes in Northern California.
The focus now shifts north as the California tour continues. Two home matches remain.
