Dave Clancy

Dave Clancy brings extensive coaching experience across Major League Rugby, having served as an Assistant Coach with the Chicago Hounds from 2023 to 2024, San Diego Legion in 2025, and California Legion in 2026.

He began his coaching career with the Munster Academy in Ireland while completing his studies, before moving into a role with the Samoan national team’s Strength and Conditioning program in 2011. Clancy later took on a Head Coach role with the Cayman Islands.

In 2016, he moved to the United States and was appointed Director of Rugby for the Chicago Lions, where he spent four years building the program. He then served as Head Coach at UCLA from 2020 to 2022, while also leading the LA Giltinis academy, marking his first involvement in Major League Rugby.

Following the Giltinis’ withdrawal, Clancy joined the Chicago Hounds as Assistant Coach, overseeing the backs and attack. He returned to California in 2025 with San Diego Legion and continued in the same role with California Legion following the club’s formation.

Clancy now plays a key role in shaping the Legion’s attacking structure and developing backline talent.
